Observing Sil at Home on Poya Day
Hi everyone!
I’m sharing a
special experience from my vacation. On a recent Poya day, I observed Sil
at home with my family. It was a peaceful and meaningful day that I will always
remember.
What is Sil?
Observing Sil
is a Buddhist practice where we follow certain precepts, meditate, and spend
the day in mindfulness and devotion. It’s a way to purify the mind and bring
peace to our hearts.
How I Observed
Sil
• Waking Up
Early:
• I woke up
early and dressed in white clothes to symbolize simplicity and purity.
• Taking the
Precepts:
• I took the Eight
Precepts, which involve abstaining from certain activities and focusing on
self-discipline.
• Meditation
and Chanting:
• I spent time
meditating and chanting Buddhist verses. This helped me feel calm and focused.
• Reading
Dhamma:
• I read a few
pages from a Dhamma book to understand Buddhist teachings better.
• Helping at
Home:
• As part of
mindfulness, I helped my family with chores and shared meals with kindness and
gratitude.
Why It Was
Special
Observing Sil
at home was a unique experience. Even
though I wasn’t at a temple, the atmosphere at home felt serene and spiritual.
I’m glad I could spend this Poya day meaningfully by observing Sil with my family.
